U of I Rape: The Whitewash Continues

Well, I can’t say I’m surprised, but I’m disappointed.

Yesterday, the Regents barely even gave U of I President Sally Mason a slap on the hand. I wasn’t a hundred percent certain that she should be fired, but at the very least, I thought a significant pay cut would have been appropriate to send a message that she was derelict in her duty to supervise what was going on with the rape investigation, particularly when she found out that, initially, the athletic department was handling the investigation of two football players.

If red lights and sirens didn’t go off in her head upon learning that information, she’s got issues.

Instead, Sally basically got a $30,000 raise (base salary remained the same but her bonus was increased).

But I have to say I was even more disappointed to hear that more comments were made to the effect that the athletic department really didn’t do anything wrong.

Once again, I just don’t understand how you can read the report and come to that conclusion. I personally found at least eight issues in which the Athletic Department botched things royally, including violations of federal law and University policy.

I have to wonder whether the Regents actually ever read the Stolar Report.

Let’s hope the members of the legislature read it and do something about it, because it seems they are the only people left who might actually hold some of these people accountable for their wrongdoing.

Sally Mason is not the only person involved here who is derelict in her duty. The Regents have been as well, in their refusal to outright terminate her, or even punish her. Governor Culver should relieve all the Regents immediately of their positions, and start over. The "University" of Iowa's reputation has forever been tarnished by this debacle, and someone must bear some responsibility for it. When those who are charged with holding such underlings responsible don't, then they need to go, as well. Absolutely, utterly pathetic. But then, that's the Board of Regents and the "University" of Iowa for you, in a nutshell.

And 'sides, Sally said she was sorry. I heard and saw her do that on the news! SHE IS SORRY! Problem solved.
