Ted Kennedy is More Honest than Leonard Boswell
So, I’m listening to the radio this morning, and there was a little one sentence news blurb telling me than Leonard Boswell will be leaving the hospital tomorrow.
Did anyone else realize that he was even still in the hospital?
That means he has been in the hospital for TWO WEEKS. Of course, we still don’t really know what’s going on with him because he won’t tell us anything, just that it was a “routine” procedure.
What kind of “routine” procedure requires two weeks in the hospital?
What’s the deal Boz? Why won’t you tell us what’s going on with you? Ted Kennedy has brain surgery, and we know so much about it, it feels like we’re on the hospital staff. Leonard Boswell has surgery, and you have to be a member of the CIA to know what’s going on.
Boz, your constituents have a right to know the status of your health. It is relevant to your capability to do your job. The more you keep us in the dark, the more people are going to think something very bad is going on.
So, you can either tell us it actually is something serious, or you can keep us in the dark and have us assume it is. Take your pick. Neither scenario will be particularly helpful to your political career.
Iowans should demand to know what’s going on. We let you slide once, Mr. I-had-a-20-pound-tumor-removed-and-underwent-chemotherapy-but-I-don’t-have-cancer. Don’t expect it to happen again.

2 WEEKS! Come on. He is deceiving his constituents! He knows his health is a serious liability and some young whipper-snapper can come in and beat him. This once Boss Hogg of Southern Iowa needs to be honest with his voters.
Unfortunately 3rd CD Dems were more worried about who voted for who eight years ago. Fallon was maybe the wrong messenger but he had the right message...
Amazing. I had the same reaction when I read the story, buried on the back page of the Register. Where is there investigative journalism? Turn the tables, and have Tom Latham in the hospital undisclosed for two weeks in the middle of an election season, and they'd be filing lawsuits to get his medical records.
Listen, he's sick. No one would stay in after a "routine" procedure for two weeks. Well, at least no one with a non-congressional health care package. It was a serious procedure, he had either setbacks or complications, and he's just now out of the woods. No other way to explain it.
Honestly I don't know how Boswell defeated Fallon. I didn't care for Fallon, but I expected him to win the election handily. I know many voters in my little community that are unhappy with Boswell. They always hear the phrase I'll look into it, but they never see or hear any results of the investigation. I wonder if he will be able to retain his seat against Schmett or whether he will get handed a loss.
If his Congressional health benefits are paying for this "routine" procedure...then lets hear what its for, Leonard.
The President and Vice President open their medical records and exams for all to see..so should our Congresscritters.
If these are the people who are going to make decisions about how we manage our healthcare..then we should know what we are paying for their healthcare.
Who cares about his health anyhow? Is health a reason that one votes for a certain candidate over another? If it is, then good god, what a pathetic reason. The great part about the structure of our government is that if one person dies while in office there is a procedure for replacing him. Judge him on the merits of his stance on issues, not on whether you believe him to be unfit physically. Using this logic we never would have elected FDR and what a shame that would have been.
Jim,
The public has the right to know if a person is physically able to serve. If they're going to spend several weeks in the hospital..that's time they're not representing the people in Congress.
For example..in the past two weeks, Congressional leaders have stated that they'd rather go home for the campaign recess break than do a flood relief bill for Iowa...
Where was Leonard? Didn't see him out there in the public calling on the Democratic leadership to stay in town and do their job...
Jim..when a person opts to serve the public in the political realm..the public is entitled to know whether that person is able to serve or not.. If a person is constantly in and out of the hospital for extensive treatment, perhaps they should step aside and focus on their health. (and Jim..a person isnt in the hospital for two weeks for a "routine" procedure.)
It was well known that FDR was suffering from polio when he was elected and serving. Hell the NYTimes did a front page story on it..nice try..but poor analogy.
