2nd CD Primary Heats Up
With the June 3rd primary less than a month away, it has been relatively quiet. The there candidates running for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate don’t have the funds or ability to run TV ads, and I doubt they will be running radio spots.
But for all you campaign junkies who like to watch a heated primary battle you just need to tune into Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District. There is a three way primary between Mariannette Miller-Meeks from Ottumwa, Peter Teahen from Cedar Rapids, and Lee Harder, and if I looked harder I’d know where he’s from too, but he’s a non factor so I’m not going to waste my time.
The 2nd CD Primary heated up around the time of the District Convention, and since then Teahen and Miller-Meeks have been traveling the district sharing their thoughts and ideas with voters.
Last week Teahen put up a TV ad on the cable networks across the district, you can watch his ad here. I’d embed it but I can’t find it on YouTube. The ad is pretty simple and straight forward and introduces Teahen to the voters of the 2nd CD. 90% of the ads are still shots with some text and voice over. I guess it gets the job done but I don’t it makes a connection with his targeted audience. The “paid for by” at the end is video of Teahen but it seems very awkward.
Miller-Meeks has an ad that hit the district yesterday. I have embedded it below in the update. I think the production quality of the Miller-Meeks ad is far superior to Teahen’s. I also think they did a better job educating the voter in who their candidate is and her qualifications.
I think this race is going to be really interesting. Teahen is from the larger community, but Miller-Meeks has more natural groups of people she can target. As I’ve said before I think Miller-Meeks would give Loebsack a real run for his money in that district.

I like Miller-Meeks a lot, she's a gutsy lady who isn't laying down to Teahen's vague inferences that she's pro-life (let's scrub Teahen's closet on that one).
A woman veteran that's a tough debater is Loebsack's worst nightmare. Teahen may have conventional support of the party but he flat can't beat Loebsack. Miller-Meeks can.
Teahen just kind of wierds me out. And that was before I knew he was funeral director... that just added to it.
I find also find the vague insinuations that Miller-Meeks must be a closet liberal pretty hypocritical coming from a guy who was a registered Democrat until last December (i.e. 5 months ago).
Frankly, I think the insinuation is pretty sexist. Not every woman is a NOW, ACLU, pro-abortion feminazi.
This is all especially disturbing given that Miller-Meeks is actually a very conservative candidate, who just happens to be a well-educated, qualified woman. Don't hold that against her.
I describe Miller-Meeks as a little spit-fire who is committed to her values and beliefs......and they are Republican values. Check her out.
Do we want a voice for Iowa in Washington? I believe she IS that voice....a voice that will not be stilled....we just have to send her!
Mariannette speaks on the issues with clarity. She does more than acknowledge there are problems in Washington....she is clear about her goals and ideas for solving the problems. Seems to me she actually has a plan ready to go.
I've also heard some vague inferences questioning her position on Pro-Life. Don't be one of those who turn her off without finding out the truth.
Dr. Miller-Meeks satisfied my Deep Christian belief regarding the sanctity of life....give her a chance to answer your questions....don't just shut her down.
And then the sexist thing....it makes me ill to hear there actually are Iowa Republicans who would reduce this to a GENDER issue. Good Grief....Iowa needs more than a "suit" in Washington!
I believe Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks will hit the ground running when she arrives in D.C. Let's get the vote out on June 3rd and give her a chance to defeat Loebsack in November.
