A Barr for McCain???

Former Rep. Bob Barr has announced he’s running for president as a Libertarian. The conventional wisdom is that this will take votes away from McCain. I suppose the thinking goes that the guy who led the impeachment of Bill Clinton will be pretty popular with the those on the religious right, who don’t seem to be too excited about McCain anyways.

Well, I’m guessing they won’t be too thrilled with Bob Barr either when they hear that Barr’s lobbying group has been working with the ACLU and Marijuana Policy Project, a group that advocates for the legalization of medical marijuana.

The legalization of drugs is a huge issue with the Libertarian Party. During Barr's announcement, he said he didn't support it. The word in the Lib streets is that he is not a shoe-in. There are quite a few candidates. Barr is at the National NRA event this weekend and he will have a responsive audience there. Gunnies hate McCain. McCain's Iowa staff said they don't need the gun-vote. I know Barr doesn't have that opinion.

That's a crap excuse. If you don't believe in the legalization of drugs, then don't have your lobbying company advocating for it. It's kind of like Mitt Romney saying he's pro-life, but donating to Planned Parenthood. The hypocrisy is not going to endear him to people.

Sam,
You haven't lobbied, have you? The right amount of money, a person forget's personal convictions. Go to Washington, it is hard to find someone who has a job in the area they are passionate about. The mighty dollar wins.

So, because everyone in Washington is a sellout, that makes it OK to sell out? Thanks for enlightening me.
