HillaryClintonDonMcDowellIowaStateUniversity.jpgIt is a sad day in the Iowa blogosphere. Don McDowell, who has faithfully managed the famous Cyclone Conservatives blog since December of 2006, has announced that he is calling it quits and hanging up the keyboard for good. Don will be graduating soon, and rumor has it, he’ll be going to work for U.S. Rep. Tom Latham.

I can’t say I blame Don. This is a great opportunity for him to make a fresh start, and with a new job in the real world, he likely won’t have time for blogging. I don’t think that those who have never blogged appreciate the enormous amount of time and commitment it takes to put out a quality blog. In blog years, Don’s been doing this a long time. Most don’t last as long as he did simply because of the thanklessness of the job… so much time, never enough readers, and usually $0 pay.

Don’s done us all a great service in giving us a forum for us to be informed, and for us to air our comments and questions about the Iowa political universe. And, despite his high standing in the Iowa blogosphere (or perhaps because of it), Don has never discouraged competition. He’s always the first to encourage new bloggers and help us out with links, shout-outs, and the like.

I do hope Don will find a way to keep us informed as to what he’s doing. I’m sure he will. But I do wonder, with no more Cyclone Conservative, who will post Latham’s (and every other GOP elected officials’) full-length essays;-)?

Best wishes to you, Don! God bless, and don’t forget where you came from.

That is the nicest thing I've read in a long time.

Thank you very much.

Maybe this blog ought to do that? :). I'll be reading every day.

Yeah, I really enjoyed his posts! He was a little too much of a liberal for me :) but a good guy.

Hopefully we can beat Latham in the fall and send him and his 69 million dollars in earmarks back home.
