Legislation Alert: Collective Bargaining for Public Employees Not Dead Yet

Just when you’d almost forgotten about it, and you were starting to hear news stories about how the legislature might be wrapping up its session this week, leave it to the Dems to try to slip one past the goalie in the final seconds of the game.

The collective bargaining for public employees bill is NOT dead. Over the weekend, the Register reported that Dem legislative leadership (i.e. Iowa Supreme Democrat Mike Gronstal & Co.) was meeting with Chet in an effort to hammer out a compromise on the bill. Chet had previously threatened to veto the original version of the bill.

Some more cynical members of the GOP caucus seem to think that Chet will be willing to compromise his position and approve the collective bargaining bill if Gronstal & Co. offer him a politically expedient trade (i.e. Chet getting the budget he wants). Don’t you hate it when the cynics are right?

I don’t think Buzz Lightyear, I mean, Chet, has any true convictions about much of anything. Ok, maybe the bottle bill (for some strange reason), but other than that, I can’t think of anything. In that way, he is much like the Clintons: he’s for sale. Whatever he thinks is the most politically expedient, whatever keeps him in office and lets him continue to pretend he’s in control, that’s what he’ll do.

How else do you explain a guy who is an elder at his church lending his name to Planned Parenthoods promotional materials? No convictions at all.
