Iowa Romney Boss joining McCain Campaign
Marc Ambinder has some interesting scoop regarding Mitt Romney’s Iowa campaign manager, Gentry Collins joining the McCain campaign. The roll that Collins would play is not clear.
Symbolically, McCain's campaign has signaled a willingness to reached into the core of his rivals' operation and entrust them with critical state operations. Concern that McCain would staff his campaign with only loyalists is likely to diminish with news that Collins is expected to come on board.
Ambinder also wrote recently that Marlys Popma has been tabbed to be a Regional Director for the McCain campaign.
With these announcements it sure looks like McCain will be playing hard in Iowa, which is a good thing for Iowa Republicans.

Huh, looks like the McCain campaign must be getting prepared to get down and dirty in the general election, and, surprise, surprise, they turned to this Romney loyalist prick to do it. I'm sure they'll get their money's worth.
This means either 1) Gentry thinks McCain might pull this off and he has abandoned his cash cow to be with a winner, 2) with all the veep talk today, Romney is the veep choice, or 3) Romney is sending his minions to sabotage McCain so that Romney can ride in on his white horse in 2012 and try to save us from the mess he helped create by getting a Dem elected this year.
Maybe this is Romney shedding the deadweight. After all, Gentry helped Romney get his ass handed to him in Iowa. What a great record of achievement.
Um. Well, Gentry sure has a lot of wins in his column. Oh I'm sorry, he doesn't. I could think of several other Iowans I would have tapped first. What the Duce?
Nathan, your right about the impact to Iowa. They are playing here, finally.
