The Three Amigos
Is anyone else shocked to see so many poorly run presidential campaigns? Now we all know that there is only going to be one winner per party, but Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani really squandered their opportunities. While those two campaigns may go down in history as the absolute worst two campaigns ever, a third one may soon join them; Hillary Clinton.
It is obvious that Clinton’s campaign never thought the nomination process would ever get to, or past Super Tuesday. Since then Senator Obama has built an impressive 10 state sweep. And while she is still within 100 delegates of the lead for the race to the 2025 needed to capture the Democrat nomination, her campaign has lost any momentum it once had.
But what really amazes me is the type of campaign Clinton has run. Just a little over a month ago every politico was saying to just wait till the Clinton machine takes the gloves off and goes after Senator Obama. That has never happened, instead she has changed the tone of her voice and tried to cry more, and occasionally serves up a very weak shot at Obama like the plagiarism accusation this past week.
I am confused as to why the Clinton’s are not attacking Senator Obama. Do they actually think he would put her on the ticket? That would be dumb. Do they think that if he doesn’t win the general election she could run again in four years? Man she looks old now, this was her year. Or are they afraid to negatively campaign against the first serious African-American candidate? I don’t know.
What I do know is it is looking more and more likely that the Democrats will nominate Senator Obama and in doing so will not properly vet him as a candidate. This will give the McCain campaign the opportunity to do it, and they should.
I have always been a proponent of primaries. Many times the strongest candidate prevails. A good primary opponent will drudged up and dirt from the past. Getting that type of information out there for public consumption is manageable if you have time to respond to it. Hillary’s weak campaign has left Obama vulnerable to the October surprise attacks that can sink a campaign if they are unable to respond.
While John McCain isn’t the guy I wanted, I have no doubt that he would lose any sleep over attacking Senator Obama.
