Hey Washington: We’re Waiting!!!
So, at first it seemed like Washington GOP Party Chairman Luke Esser was just going to tell the Huckabee people to take a hike and not even bother to count the last 13% of the vote.
Then the story seemed to be that they would count the vote, but they were going to wait until Monday. GUESS WHAT… IT’S MONDAY AND STILL NO NEWS.
This is a huge embarrassment, not only for the Washington GOP, but for the party as a whole. Since when do the administrators of elections “project a winner” without actually tallying all the votes? Hey Esser, that for the media to do, not you!
Esser also has been quoted as saying that, in counting the votes, they are going to try to get as "close as we can to 100 percent." Gee really?!? That’s mighty swell of you!!! Since when do we even consider not counting all of the votes? What are we, Democrats?!?
Now they did say on Sunday that they had 93% counted (up from 87%), and some reports are saying that Huckabee is closing the narrow gap. But there are other reports that Huckabee reps have been denied access to monitor the counting. And now it’s a whole day later, and still no final count
It should be noted, my understanding is that in Iowa, campaign reps have access to count monitoring from the precinct level all the way to the tabulation center in Des Moines. This is the way it should be. Kudos to Iowa for doing it right.
Perhaps instead of calling us “fly-over country,” these west-coasters should learn from us how it’s done.
