Hit or Miss? Huck and Mitt…
Apparently, Huckabee has decided not to air the “negative” ad he had produced and distributed to local Iowa TV stations in response to the voluminous amount of negative ads that have targeted him lately. He did play the ad once for the journalists gathered at the Des Moines press conference this afternoon to prove that he had indeed produced the ad (otherwise he would be accused of planning the press conference solely for free press).
Huckabee said he decided just minutes before the press conference to pull the ad. I’m sure he will be accused of this being another version of a ploy for free media. Perhaps that’s part of it, and if so, it is a brilliant move. But I really think Huckabee likely had a crisis of conscience regarding the negative ad situation.
I’ve been reading some other national blogs, and it angers me when the commenters attempt to argue that Romney’s ads are merely comparison ads. Everyone take note: when you grievously mislead and outrightly lie, that’s a negative ad dressed in comparison ad wrapping, but it’s negative all the same.
If I had been (unfairly) attacked with the ferocity with which Huckabee has been attacked over the past month, I’d want to unleash my guns, too (particularly given that Mitt has so graciously provided so many targets which could be exploited). I think it took some amazing self-restraint to pull the plug on the “negative” ad, even if he did wait until the last minute.
Will this make Huckabee look indecisive? Possibly. But it could also be seen as a sign of a man with a conscience, a man who really does want to change the nature of politics in this country.
Perhaps I’m just an eternal optimist, but if I had to take a guess, I think that’s what Huckabee is trying to do, and it’s something he should be commended for.
And remember (all together now): Iowans don’t like bullies!

WIN, LOSE, or DRAW- Huckabee's honesty has given an opportunity for the American people to have pride in the future of the United States with a President Huckabee. No matter what the outcome of the Iowa caucus will be, the current lead held by Mr. Huckabee demonstrates that the people are seeking a President who is an honest man seeking power not for personal glory but to empower Americans to be true patriots rather than cautious cynics.
I'm so tired of hearing about the "negative ads" targeted at Huckabee which he says are "dishonest." I'm also tired of hearing about the "positive" campaign he has run. Romney has had to endure more "negative campaigning" than any other candidate in the GOP (yep, true), and for far longer. The media doesn't talk as much about this negative campaigning as the attacks have typically been made behind closed doors to thousands of people, away from television cameras. Huckabee is primarily where he is at in the polls because many of a similar religious mind have been convinced by their religious leaders (in both direct and indirect manners) that Romney, a Mormon, has horns growing out of his head. Huck did not get where he is secondary to his own accomplishments.
Without Mitt, Huck would be nothing. Mitt on the other hand is a very different story.
When the issues of Economy, Defense/Foreign policy and Family are considered in aggregate, Romney is the clear winner. He has proven in his life again and again by ACTIONS that he knows how to build strong teams with the best talent and the sharpest minds and to subsequently get the best RESULTS. He has proven in his personal life that he cherishes and strives to follow the core moral principles that so many conservatives hold so dear. He will continue to do so as President.
For more of the same... vote a career politician. Otherwise, vote Mitt.
It will be unfortunate if this extremely talented and intelligent son of America is pushed to the wayside due to bigotry. If so, in the end, those influenced by this bigotry will receive that which they want least cause Huck is in no way going to win a general election.
My vote is going to Mitt, he is clearly the best candidate for the job.
